Description
Yellow-Bellied Waxbills for sale are small finches with a beautiful song that will enhance your aviary. The Yellow Bellied Waxbill finches are also known as the East African Swee Waxbill or Swee Waxbill (Coccopygia melanotis) and are typically found in uplands of dry shrub land and open forest habitats of Sub-Saharan Africa. This species is a common and tame bird typically seen in small parties, and does not form large flocks. The Swee Waxbill’s call is typically considered a soft swee, swee. They can be housed comfortably in a large cage or aviary and mix well with other peaceful species. Swees prefer to stay off the ground and may appreciate having their food & water dishes elevated.
Geography: Africa; specifically Ethiopia, Eritrea, Sudan, Zaire, Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Malawi, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.

Sexing: Monomorphic (visually difficult to sex). However, DNA testing is available to ensure desired gender.
Temperament: Peaceful, friendly, active, lively, relatively tame.
Breeding: Aviary breeding recommended, preferably planted with bushes and climbing vines for birds to build their nests within. Provide coconut fiber, grasses, sisal, and feathers for nest construction. Some pairs may accept a nest box or basket. Breeding season is during the African rainy season.
